The Streak Continues

The Catholic High Rockets held off the West Memphis Blue Devils in an incredible style and continued their undefeated streak. This season has been the strongest for the Rockets in this millennia.

The Rockets (5-0) faced the West Memphis Blue Devils (4-1) last Friday at War Memorial Stadium. It was a highly anticipated game as both teams were undefeated going into the match and it was supposed to be one of the Rocket’s toughest match-ups this season. The 37-16 win for the Rockets fell in line with  the Rockets’ other wins.

Junior Brooks Ward scored the first touchdown and put the Rockets on the board in the first quarter. Quarterback Sam Sanders followed up with another touchdown at the very end of the first quarter, bringing the score to 14-3.

The Blue Devils scored a touchdown and two field goals in the second quarter, giving them a lead of 16-14 at halftime. In the third quarter, Dominic Keaton scored a touchdown and gave the lead back to the Rockets. Later in the third quarter, West Memphis fumbled the ball and Cole Eichler recovered it.

On that drive, the Rockets scored a field goal on fourth down, which brought the score to 24-16. But, on that play, West Memphis got a personal foul for roughing the snapper and gave Catholic High a first down on the three-yard line. Sam Sanders then scored his second touchdown of the night. When the Rockets were close to the goal line it was more convenient for Sanders to just run the ball in. “The running backs are all the way in the back field and I’m right in the center,” said Sanders. “so it’s easier for me to get the ball and try to push the pile.”

Near the end of the fourth quarter, Brooks Ward scored his second touchdown of the night, bringing the final score to 37-16. Quarterback Sam Sanders contributed to every touchdown that the Rockets scored.

Because of this win, the Rockets are the only undefeated team in the 6A East Conference. According to MaxPreps, Catholic High is ranked first in the 6A East Conference and second in the 6A Division behind Pulaski Academy.

On Friday, October 7, the Rockets will head to Sheridan (2-3) to face the Yellowjackets. Even though the Rockets are favored heading into the game, they will remain vigilant. “You can’t underestimate any team,” said Sanders. “We’re gonna play our game, have fun, and do our job.”
