Seeing Ahead

Senior class chooses new leaders

Back to school at Catholic High means many things: pep rallies, football games, and polo shirts that sat in your closet all summer. However, back to school also brings election season, where the senior class chooses six of their own to campaign for a role as a class officer.

This year, Samuel Boozer, Scott Davis, Noah Doolittle, Evan Cronkhite, Reed Horras, and Walter Menefee lead the charge for leadership.

On September 3rd, each candidate stood up with their campaign manager and spoke to the entire student body, spreading their vision for the school and why they deserve to be elected. That afternoon, the student body voted, and three candidates emerged victorious: President Scott Davis, Vice-President Walter Menefee, and Secretary Reed Horras.

President Scott Davis is a part-time journalist, a skit cheerleader, and a member of the Trap Team. He used the image of his thick, black glasses as a metaphor to explain how he will lead with vision, perspective, and style. He posted his glasses everywhere and doubled down on the metaphor in his speech. “Scott’s speech felt presidential. He addressed every class and seemed calm and comfortable as well as sincere,” said English teacher Mr. Edward Dodge.

Davis hopes to lead everyone to their best year—academically and socially—and will do whatever it takes to make the year stand out. “I am willing to work my butt off and do what’s asked of me and beyond,” said Davis.

Vice-President Walter Menefee represents Catholic High on the football, track, and golf teams. He hopes to change the school for the better and bring everyone closer. “I’m not loud. I lead by example. I know people will see that,” said Menefee.

Secretary Reed Horras plays football and golf. He also loves pickleball and music. Horras’s big goal is to get more students to every athletic event. “After football, participation in student events tends to drop off. I’m looking to fix that,” said Horras.

Catholic High will surely benefit from the leadership of Davis, Menefee, and Horras. However, that’s not to say that Boozer, Cronkhite, and Doolittle didn’t give it their all. From their speeches to their character, it was evident that all six candidates want the best for Catholic High. “I thought they all did a good job on constructing what they wanted to say and taking things seriously,” said Mr. Dodge.

Yet again, the election process has shown the strength of the brotherhood and the unity and optimism that follow. “I’m hoping that everyone sees us three as good representatives not only of the senior class but of the student body as a whole,” said Davis.
