The Catholic High Rockets handed the Benton Panthers a scathing 38-14 loss. It’s a massive win for the team that continues to emerge as one of the strongest in the 6A division.

The Rockets (3-0) have continued their streak of steamrolling their opponents, winning all three of their games by at least 17 points. In their game against the Benton Panthers (1-2), the Rockets started off with a touchdown from junior receiver Cody Fogleman near the end of the first quarter. Soon after that touchdown, the team scored a 39-yard field goal on a drive that included a fumbled kickoff catch by Benton. In the second quarter, junior Brooks Ward scored another touchdown, extending the lead to 17-0 for the Rockets.

The Rockets were supported by a huge fan base and student section, with an estimate of at least 1000 people attending the game at War Memorial Stadium. With the strong season that the Rockets are having, the home crowd size is significant.

Seniors Owen Waller and Cole Pace scored two interceptions for Catholic High, with the latter getting a pick-six. When Pace scored after that interception, he said, “It felt unreal.” Quarterback Sam Sanders led the team in touchdowns, scoring two.

According to the website MaxPreps, out of the 19 teams in the 6A division, the Rockets are ranked fourth, behind Pulaski Academy in first, Lake Hamilton in second, and Little Rock Christian in third. In the 6A East division, the Rockets are ranked first.

Next week, the Rockets travel north to face the Searcy Lions (1-2), who are ranked 15th in the 6A division. The Rockets will be favorites, but will work to continue their winning streak. As Coach John Fogleman told the Arkansas Democrat Gazette,“There are a lot of games left to play. We’ll enjoy [the win against Benton] for a moment and get ready for next week.”
