Catholic High places first at the Bob Gravett Invitational 5K
Catholic High’s cross-country team put in work all summer to prepare for the season with a goal in mind: to bring the CHS cross-country program back to its winning ways. “We ran through rainy days, scorching hot days, early mornings, late night races, 6-days-a-week, all year, without exception. We even ran in the hail,” said Junior Asher Found.
In Arkadelphia this weekend, the Rockets finally cashed in on their efforts. CHS won the Bob Gravett Invitational 5K emphatically. The five scorers for the Rockets all finished in the top ten: junior Asher Found (1st), junior Zachery Greenway (3rd), junior Tyler Jackson (6th), senior Joseph Moellers (7th), and senior Alex Smith (10th).
Catholic High scored 26 points, Benton High School (Louisiana) scored 77 for second place, and Lake Hamilton High School finished third with 88. The Rockets’ victory inspired an electric post-race speech by Asher Found, who led the Rockets with a new personal best of 15:36 for 5K.
“The race isn’t over yet,” said Found. “This is only the beginning. I hope the team will grow restless from this victory and work even harder to surpass not just the competition but also themselves,” said Found. “We have our sights set on winning conference and with renewed faith, I believe we can.”
The junior varsity will compete on September 14th at the Bison Invitational at Harding University, and the varsity will compete again on September 21st at the Missouri Southern Stampede.
