Catholic Clinches Conference


The Rockets wrapped up their regular season undefeated for the first time in school history. It’s the strongest regular season the school has ever had. 

The Rockets (10-0) beat the Marion Patriots (7-3) on Friday at War Memorial Stadium 52-29, in the Rockets’ highest-scoring game all season. 

The school had a very large pep rally on Friday with the student body, parents, alumni, Mount Saint Mary’s cheerleaders and Rockettes, and Mount Saint Mary students invited. The game was originally scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday but was moved forward two hours because of bad weather. 

The Marion Patriots started off strong by scoring when they received the football on the opening kickoff. Later in the first quarter, junior Cade McConnell got a pick-six and got the Rockets on the scoreboard. Soon after, junior Dominic Keaton scored a touchdown on a 42-yard run and gave the Rockets the lead. 

At the beginning of the second quarter, senior quarterback Sam Sanders threw a 12 -yard pass to junior Cooper Naneen who scored a touchdown and made the score 21-7. Then Marion scored a touchdown almost halfway through the 2nd quarter, bringing the score to 21-14. Dominic Keaton got his second touchdown of the night and made the score 28-14. Following Keaton’s touchdown, Sam Sanders ran for a touchdown and gave the Rockets a comfortable 35-14 lead heading into halftime. 

After halftime, Marion scored a touchdown and got a two-point conversion to bring Marion within two touchdowns of the Rockets. Junior kicker Will Aaron scored a field goal which made the lead 38-22. Sam Sanders scored his second touchdown of the night when he ran it in, which made the score 45-22. Later, senior Cole Eichler got a pick-six and scored the Rockets’ final touchdown of the night. Marion scored another touchdown, bringing the final score to 52-29.

According to MaxPreps, the Rockets are ranked first in 6A East, fourth in the 6A division, and eleventh in Arkansas among all divisions. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette ranks the school first in 6A East, first in the 6A division, and fourth among all divisions.

You can vote here; voting ends on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. The Rockets will not play next week in the playoffs because they have a bye, but on November 18, they will play the winner of this week’s Little Rock Christian vs El Dorado game.
