A new food craze is taking the school by storm, but it is not being sold by the cafeteria staff.<\/p>\n
Senior Simon Stoltz makes homemade cookies and sells them in the cafeteria multiple times a week. \u201cMy dad has been making these cookies for as long as I can remember,\u201d Stoltz said. \u201c My dad makes them all, but I help out quite a bit. We usually make 120 week or 60 a day. We now have a 20 quart mixer that can make 100 cookies per batch.\u201d<\/p>\n
Stoltz sells the sweet and savory cookies for only one dollar. The low prices are a major factor in the number of cookies he sells. \u201cI think a major selling point is my great deal of three cookies for two dollars,\u201d Stoltz said. \u201c\u201dMy cookies are also much larger than the ones at school.\u201d<\/p>\n
Seniors Chandler Vail and Nick Zakrzewski are both close friends of Stoltz and are also frequent cookie buyers. Vail said, \u201cI think it is a better deal overall. You know where it comes from and where it is going. I eat these cookies and I am left wanting more.\u201d<\/p>\n
Zakrzewski said, \u201cThe cookies are twice as big but not double the price. Sometimes my entire lunch is Simon\u2019s cookies. You don\u2019t even need milk.\u201d<\/p>\n
Many would tell Stoltz to pocket the money, but he does quite the opposite. \u201cI donate all the money to the MS (Multiple sclerosis) Foundation,\u201d Stoltz said. \u201cMy dad and I participate in a 150 mile charity bike race for MS, but to be in it you have to raise $300 for MS research. I started selling cookies to raise the money.\u201d<\/p>\n
Although this will be Stoltz\u2019s third year participating in the race, it became a little more personal last summer when Vail\u2019s mother was diagnosed with MS. \u201cSimon donates to her team,\u201d Vail said. \u201cIt means a lot because I know there is no real treatment for it right now. Medicine reduces the symptoms but it is very expensive. I know how MS affects someone so every bit helps.\u201d<\/p>\n
Since January, Stoltz has raised nearly $300 and last year alone he raised $1200. And although graduation is coming up, Stoltz has no plans of stopping cookie production. \u201cM&M cookies are coming soon,\u201d Stoltz said. \u201cI might also have a couple of free batches for the seniors to share the love as we get closer to graduation.\u201d<\/p>\n
