The sound of crickets chirping, a three day hike through the woods, and a\u00a0campfire get together are just a few events Boy Scouts experience on their way to\u00a0being Eagle Scouts.<\/p>\n

The end goal of a Boy Scouts journey is the rank of Eagle Scout. Boy Scouts\u00a0often try to reach this prestigious rank but never finish their goal. Junior Richard\u00a0Lewis is close to reaching this prestigious rank.<\/p>\n

Lewis said, \u201cI have been in Boy Scouts five years almost six years. I was also\u00a0in Cub Scouts from first grade through sixth grade. I joined because my mom\u00a0thought it would be a good after school activity. I also enjoy campouts and\u00a0hanging around a bunch of my friends. I am currently part of troop 427 at The\u00a0Immaculate Heart of Mary in North Little Rock.\u201d<\/p>\n

Eagle Scout is achieved by earning a certain amount of merit badges, and\u00a0completing an Eagle Scout project.<\/p>\n

Lewis said, \u201cThe rank of Eagle Scout can be reached at any age; there are even a few thirteen-year-olds that have reached the\u00a0rank. The reason there aren\u2019t many is because it shows your level of maturity and\u00a0presence in your community, and that is hard to show at a young age.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cI\u00a0am actually pretty close. I have completed most of the merits I need; I just need\u00a0to find a project.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Eagle Scouts have to perform a project which is the last step to\u00a0becoming an Eagle Scout. The Scouts often ask schools or communities what they\u00a0can do to help. Lewis said, \u201cI have been looking for a while around schools\u00a0trying to find a project I can enjoy doing for the community. The only\u00a0requirements are that the project needs to serve people and be\u00a0somehow involved in nature.\u201d<\/p>\n

Junior Brian Williams said, \u201cI have actually found my Eagle Scout project.\u00a0I\u2019m working on a building for St. Edwards downtown. I\u2019m working on restoring an\u00a0outside patio and walkway.\u201d<\/p>\n

The rank of Eagle Scout comes with multiple benefits.<\/p>\n

Junior Jeremy\u00a0Baste said, \u201cI haven\u2019t reached the rank of Eagle Scout, but it does open up the\u00a0opportunity to receive scholarship money exclusive to Eagle Scouts.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lewis said, \u201cI know several friends who are now Eagle Scouts. The thing I\u00a0think they are most happy about is not the money but actually the completion. The guys who\u00a0actually reach the rank of Eagle Scout have been in it for years, and nothing is\u00a0better than actually reaching the ultimate goal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lewis said, \u201cI have been a Boy Scout for six years, and I was a\u00a0Cub Scout\u00a0before that. I can\u2019t wait to finally finish all this hard work and reach the rank of\u00a0Eagle Scout.\u201d<\/p>\n
