REACH, the volunteer group, held the tournament to raise money for the\u00a0Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe raised about $500 from the\u00a0tournament,\u201d said REACH\u00a0president\u00a0senior Julian Alvarez.<\/p>\n
REACH provides volunteers for various charities such as Helping Hand,\u00a0Miracle League, and the Arkansas Food Bank. They also raise money for other\u00a0non-profit organizations\u00a0such as Heifer International.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe raise about $2,000 a year for charity,\u201d\u00a0said Alvarez.<\/p>\n
The REACH event hosted\u00a0two different tournaments: one for beginners and another\u00a0for advanced players. Eight teams competed in the beginner tournament, and\u00a0twelve competed in the advanced bracket. All of the teams played three\u00a0games until the best teams went on to a qualifying round.<\/p>\n
The event rules proved to be a little more complicated than the Reach members intended. \u201cPeople keep coming up and\u00a0asking me how it works,\u201d said Alvarez. \u201cI\u2019m the only guy that seems to understand.<\/p>\n
Sophomores John David Falcon, Cody Jones, and Joseph Enderlin played in\u00a0the advanced tournament as the Kobe Elites. After the first three rounds, the\u00a0Kobe Elites\u00a0did not qualify\u00a0for the championship game. However, Falcon left\u00a0his team to join the Red Snakes.\u00a0\u201cI signed up with another team to be able to be\u00a0in the championship,\u201d said Falcon.<\/p>\n
Falcon\u2019s decision paid off as the Red Snakes easily won the championship.\u00a0Each winner got a $10 Chick-fil-A gift card.<\/p>\n
\u201cI went to Chick-fil-A after the\u00a0tournament and got some chicken nuggets and a milkshake,\u201d said Falcon.<\/p>\n
