Even though it was drivable with 92,000 miles on it when it was first bought, the Hinmans wanted to add special features. They added everything from new speakers to step guards and even heated seats.

Sadly, not even all the money in the world could fix the gas tank problem.

“The Scout gets about ten miles per gallon,” said Hinman. “I have to fill up the nineteen gallon tank about twice a week.”

The favorite accessory for Hinman’s passengers is the speaker system. Joseph Enderlin, a regular passenger, said, “The speakers are so nice that they have the ability to shake the car and occasionally attract the police.”

Hinman plans to add a few more accessories to the vehicle, including a new roof. “I want a softer top because the hard top that I have now weighs a lot,” said Hinman. “Plus, the soft top is easier to put on and take off.”

Despite the upgrades of the interior and exterior, one element of the car is yet to be upgraded: the horn.

“The horn sounds like a dying rooster,” said sophomore Jack Storey.

The Scout’s horn has been compared to the horn of a 1930s car, but this doesn’t bother Hinman who said, “I think the horn is awesome. It is kind of like a joyful scare.”

Mr. Michael Drake and other teachers have even asked if they could trade cars with Hinman. “I like that his Scout is a convertible,” said Mr. Drake. “If I were to trade cars with Hinman, I believe that I would get a lot more chicks.”

With the new special features added by the Hinmans, the Scout’s market value is now around $13,000.

“The car is the epitome of Justin Hinman’s personality.
