Wasps beset Catholic High

Students have plenty of reasons to be worried about going to school.  Most students worry about things like the test they didn’t study for, or the homework they never got around to doing the night before. However, a new fear has taken the school by storm: wasps.

Recently, wasps have troubled several students, both in and out of school. One of these students was junior Will Perreault.

“I was sitting in chemistry class when I noticed a wasp flying around the room. I didn’t pay much attention to it and was focusing on the lesson when people started yelling my name and saying the wasp was on my head. Mr. Edge told me not to move and began to move toward me with a rubber band around his finger. He pulled pack on then rubber band and shot the wasp clean off my head. I turned around and saw a dead wasp and a rubber band on the ground and the class went crazy,” said Perreault.

Perreault isn’t the only student to experience wasps in the chemistry lab. “Last year Mr. Edge gave us all rubber bands and told us to start shooting them at the wasps on the ceiling,” said senior David Bultena.

On the second day of school, a wasp made an advance on junior Peyton Adams.

“I was sitting in Mass when out of the corner of my eye, I saw something flying around. Before I had time to react, the wasp flew straight toward my face and stung me right between my eyes.  I had to refrain from explicit outbursts because I was in Mass,” said Adams.

Junior Noah Black-Ocken, who was sitting next to Adams during the incident, was happy to share some insight.

“I saw the wasp hovering around us and I was a little worried, but I didn’t say anything because I wanted to be respectful during Mass. The wasp flew right into Peyton’s face,” said Black-Ocken.

Junior Charlie Singkhek is a third student who has had a wasp-related episode recently. Singkhek said, “I was at home with a new BB gun when I saw a wasp.  It was in a small crevice behind my window.  I tried to shoot it with my BB gun, but I missed and the wasp flew toward me.  As I tried to defend myself, the wasp stung my arm.  I mixed together five creams that my father gave to me.  They were all natural Asian remedial creams.  The creams had an icy-hot cooling effect and it made my wrist feel like it was on fire, but it felt good because it kept me from itching it.

“The next day I went to see Ms. Mabrey because my wrist was red and swollen.  She checked my blood pressure and gave me some more cream.  She didn’t have any Benadryl, but Brother Richard had some for Zeke and he gave it to me.  Mrs. Finnegan insisted I see a walk-in doctor because I needed steroid antibiotics.  I went to the doctor after school and he gave me some steroids. I wasn’t sure how much I was supposed to take so I took nine in one day and the next day I was better.”

“This school is a dangerous place,” said Adams, “Beware of the wasp.”
